CSIR-IICT has an active research program leading to Ph.D. degree in Chemical, Biological and Engineering Sciences. The students can register in AcSIR (preferably) or other State and Central Universities for their degrees.

There is a possibility of joining of the few project fellows for Ph.D. programs however the joining as a project fellow does not guarantee for Ph.D. program seat.



CSIR-IICT also provides Training to several B.Tech/M.Tech/MSc/ B.Pharm / M.Pharm students for their final year project dissertation at CSIR-IICT.

The PhD course work is offered in two semesters. The first semester will be from January to May and the second semester from August to December or as per AcSIR guidelines. Students are required to complete all the coursework requirements within the first two years in the case of PhD course.


Limited number of students of recognized Indian Universities / Institutes shall be allowed access to the research facilities of CSIR-IICT under the supervision of one or more of CSIR-IICT's scientists through summer training / project in the field of chemistry / chemical engineering / life sciences / plant molecular biology and other areas of interest to CSIR-IICT scientists.


Interested students are requested to visit CSIR-IICT website http://www.iictindia.org for more details of the current research activities of the laboratory. Students must possess a good academic record as well as interest and aptitude to pursue research.

Under various bilateral programs between various Universities and Institutes across the globe, CSIR-IICT hosts international students for 4 months to 1 year depending upon the agreement signed for the academic program.

After the official formalities students are provided with accommodation and local hospitality as per rules and agreement. The students are expected to make a brief presentation of the work carried out during the tenure at the end and submit a detailed report for the same. The tenure may be from 4 to 6 months. A certificate is being issued for the same before leaving.

The aim of the Academic Affair unit (AAU) is to contribute towards the development of an academic environment that promotes constructive learning, academic success and the socialization process for students. The AAU services are available to all the students including Research Associates, AcSIR students, Ph.D. scholars registered in other Universities, Project Staff, Interns, Job Contract, Apprentices, etc


The AAU is concerned with all matters relevant to student studies from their admission to completion of their tenure. It is responsible to oversee the correct ongoing registration of students and execution of student welfare services (canteen, recreation, health and housing). The office also provides students with the needed administrative information regarding their studies such as time tables, examination information, etc. The AAU office is also responsible for issuing students with several certificates as well as official transcripts.


Enrolment of students for Ph.D. at CSIR-IICT would be open throughout the year. Subsequently, the student has to register for Ph. D. course in AcSIR (Preferably)/ in recognized university. All the Ph.D. students must appear initially for orientation courses like laboratory safety training and communication skills. Transfers of Ph.D. Students from different organizations are strictly prohibited.
